Whitewater Meadows Play Area

Written by The Wicksteed Team, 22 Mar 24

Case Study

Wicksteed undertook the project for Whitewater Meadows in collaboration with Hart District Council, aiming to craft a versatile play area catering to all age groups, from toddlers to seniors, while seamlessly integrating with the local environment and existing landforms.

The client's request for an impressive main play item led to the selection of our Treehouse; however, a special bespoke version had to be manufactured to adhere to height restrictions, capped at 4 meters. Following consultations, a Steel Cableway was included as a prominent feature to enhance the play experience.

In addition to the Treehouse and Cableway, Wicksteed incorporated various play elements to enrich the space further. This included our Pick Up Sticks 6, a Basket Swing, and a mix of flat seat, and cradle seat swings, catering to different preferences and age groups. An inclusive area was also integrated, featuring a Swirl inclusive roundabout and a ground trampoline with play panels, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all.

Our approach extended beyond the installation of play equipment. Mounds with balance beams and a timber trim trail were strategically integrated to complement the play elements, enhancing the overall play experience and encouraging exploration and physical activity.

Furthermore, careful consideration was given to natural play features and seating areas, creating a harmonious blend between the play space and its surroundings.

As part of our commitment to social value, Wicksteed's Area Sales Manager, Andrew Smith, presented a school talk about the project upon its completion. The pupils were engaged and had plenty of questions and this initiative has not only increased awareness among the school children but has also encouraged those who were previously unaware of the play area to visit.

The result is a new comprehensive play area designed to cater to all ages, providing inclusive play opportunities while respecting and enhancing the natural environment. Wicksteed's commitment to thoughtful design and integration of play equipment and natural elements ensures that Whitewater Meadows offers not only excitement and enjoyment but also a connection to nature and community for visitors of all ages.

“Wicksteed delivered a large scale project on time and was a pleasure to work with a great team from initial meetings, pre start meeting and completion an sign off.” - Leigh Wallace
