Case Studies
Aubrey Fletcher Play Area, Arun District Council
Written by
The Wicksteed Team
, 20 Feb 24
Case Study
Wicksteed took on the challenge presented by Arun District Council to revitalise the Aubrey Fletchers Field Play Area, understanding the importance of seamlessly blending the play area with the local environment.
The client's preference for timber equipment, coupled with the need for new swings, set the stage for a project that would not only enhance the play experience but also harmonise with the surroundings.
Our team set out to design a play space that covered a spectrum of activities, ensuring swinging, sliding, rocking, rotating climbing, social, and balancing elements. The emphasis was on creating a cohesive and low-maintenance environment.
The use of mulch with colour patterns not only added visual appeal but also contributed to the overall design.
To fulfil these requirements, Wicksteed installed the
Livingstone Young Explorer Multiplay
unit, incorporating features like slides, a climbing wall, and a fireman's pole.
Additionally, we installed the
Pick up Sticks 4
, introducing new swings into the play area, including cradle seat swings and a basket swing.
The design further included a
Timber Trail
featuring the Parallel Rope Walk, Inclined Balance Weaver, and Step logs, offering diverse play opportunities.
Our commitment to providing a comprehensive play experience extended to including
Rock 'N' Bowl
roundabout,
Freddie Frog
,
Talking Flowers
, Sensory Woodland-themed Finger Maze, and Bug magnifier in the play area. Each element was carefully chosen to enhance the play value and cater to various age groups and interests.
Ros Bryant, representing the client, expressed satisfaction with the new play area, highlighting the significant improvement over the tired and removed equipment of the old play area. The Parish endorsed our design, recognising its play value and the variety of play opportunities it offered.
The project was not only delivered on time but also smoothly installed from commencement to completion.
