Case Study

Wicksteed was awarded the opportunity to work with the Wolverhampton City Council to manufacture and install a new playground at a disused paddling pool area at East Park, where we transformed the area into a vibrant play and water play facility spanning approximately 1000 square meters.

The council aimed to create a destination play space for the local community and families far and wide. As part of a larger park development, the play area was designated as the main attraction, set to draw in families with its irresistible charm. Ongoing development includes further facilities as well as a cafe.

Our design aimed to cater to a diverse range of ages and abilities, ensuring that toddlers and juniors could all enjoy the space together. The layout was planned for optimal flow, with clear sight lines for both children and accompanying adults.

The centrepiece of this adventure-packed space is the Matrix K7, a towering double tower unit standing nearly 6 meters high, featuring two thrilling steel tube slides.

Complementing this, the six-tower bespoke Treetop Towers unit boasts inclusive features, fostering play for children with varying abilities through bridges, platforms, crossings, and slides.

Recognising the park as a destination, the council envisioned a large focal point for adventurous youngsters. The Notts Sport surfacing played a crucial role, ensuring year-round accessibility and drainage. This robust, hardwearing surfacing incorporates coloured shapes and patterns, embracing the water theme and adding an extra layer of excitement.

Come summer, the water play area takes centre stage, featuring 12 play items with various jets and splash pads, offering entertainment and a cool respite. The Notts Sport surfacing ensures durability, making the play area accessible in all seasons.

Wicksteed collaborated closely with the council, engaging with the local community to refine the design. The result exceeded expectations, meeting the project brief and allowing us to deliver the installation on time.

The feedback has been nothing short of amazing, solidifying Wicksteed's commitment to creating innovative and engaging play spaces. We're proud to contribute to the joy and excitement that East Park now offers to families across the region.
