At Wicksteed, we understand that it’s not just the equipment that makes a playground, but the surfacing too. Our range of playground surfaces offers a variety of choices, each offering its own unique advantages and disadvantages.
 
  • Wet Pour Playground Surfacing
This rubber safety surfacing can be used for all equipment requiring impact-absorbent surfacing up to the appropriate maximum freefall height.
This material is slip-resistant, non-abrasive and porous, meaning even in wet or winter weather the same quality of protection is provided. The combination of an SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) base layer which is made from 100% recycled materials and EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Di Monomer) top layer is available as standard.  Coloured wet pour uses virgin rubber whereas Black Ecofleck utilises 100% recycled products.
All surfacing is mixed onside using specialist equipment to meet the Wicksteed standard and can be flexibly applied around complex configurations of equipment and ground contours on a range of bases including stone, tarmac and concrete.
As well as this, colour can be added to the flooring, either to create a cohesive theme, fun pathways, or games like hopscotch or snakes and ladders. Let your imagination run wild to encourage creative play.

  • Safety Grass
This honeycomb matting is designed to work with existing turf, preserving the grass whilst absorbing impact from play. This easy-to-install, unobtrusive design is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, so can be used on high-traffic walkways as well as the playground itself to provide the necessary support while safeguarding erosion and maintaining a natural look.
 Safety grass is competitively priced and comes with a 5-year guarantee*.
This product follows the natural contours of the earth when laid. You should ensure the grass has taken to the surface prior to use as the grass sub-base provides an important aspect of the impact absorption. Turf and topsoil should be well maintained to ensure the continued performance of the surface.
 
  • Eco-Tumble
Eco-tumble is a great sustainable option for playground surfacing. Manufactured from shredded recycled tyres, this surfacing can be laid onto existing grass and soil surfaces and gives a more natural look than other rubber synthetics.
The material is colour-coated and combined on-site with a binder to ensure the best possible quality of installation and comes with a 2-year eco-tumble guarantee*. However, the colour coating can fade due to wear, leading to potential carbon blacking.

Please advise if the site is liable to flooding or exposed to a high water table
