Longhorsley Parish Council contracted Wicksteed for the refurbishment of the Church View Play Area, with a primary focus on creating an inclusive and exciting space for children of all ages, with a focus on meeting the diverse needs of children and providing a comfortable seating area for parents and carers.
Central to the revitalised play area is the thrilling Treetop Towers Kamba Multiplay unit, designed to cater to Early Years and Juniors. The Kamba's intricate design offers a realm of deep exploration, inviting children to engage in imaginative play and physical activity.
Swing sets were carefully selected to ensure inclusivity and variety, featuring a range of seats including standard flat seats, cradle seats for toddlers, and a basket seat. This thoughtful selection accommodates children of different ages and abilities, promoting inclusive play experiences for all.
In addition to the multiplay unit and swing sets, Wicksteed incorporated additional play equipment to enhance the play experience. The Cockerel 4-way Springy provides bouncing fun for multiple children simultaneously, while the Spin-a-Bounce Roundabout combines spinning and bouncing for endless amusement. Roll-over bars and a Balance Beam promote physical exercise and active play, contributing to children's physical development and well-being.
Recognising the importance of providing a comfortable seating area for parents and carers, Wicksteed installed a 3m shaded pavilion. This shaded area offers respite from the sun and rain, and a place for adults to relax and supervise children at play.
Through careful planning and execution, Wicksteed successfully refurbished the play area, transforming it into a vibrant and inclusive space that promotes active play, exploration, and social interaction. The project not only meets the client's requirements but also enhances the community's recreational opportunities, providing a welcoming environment for families to gather and enjoy quality time together.
"Our old play area was nearly 20 years old and looked dull and out-of-date whereas the design for the new area looked bright and modern. There were many colours and elements to choose from - so we went with blues, yellows and greens, whilst keeping some traditional wooden features too! The comments we have had from both parents and children are complementary to the Wicksteed Team who oversaw the design and installation from start to finish. The area was back in use in time for the school holidays and was on target despite the horrendous weather we had during the installation period. Our thanks go to Charlotte Wilson and Liam Ireland who managed the whole process on our behalf ". - Longhorsely Parish Council
