City of Doncaster Council approached Wicksteed with a project to supply and install inclusive play equipment at Adwick Park, along with the installation of new wet pour surfacing. Their goal was to create a fun, accessible play environment for children of all abilities.
We began by supplying and installing a conipave pathway to improve accessibility throughout the play area. This durable surface provided easy movement for wheelchairs and pushchairs, ensuring all visitors could navigate the park with ease.
The play equipment included a range of exciting new additions. We supplied two freestanding play panels—the Sands of Time Rotating Play Panel and the Flying Bats Cog Spinner. These interactive panels were chosen to stimulate sensory engagement, creativity, and social interaction among children. To further enhance the inclusive play offering, we installed a Viking Swing with a Basket Seat, designed for shared play experiences and to accommodate children of different abilities with its spacious and supportive design. In addition to these features, we supplied and installed a Swirl Inclusive Roundabout, which is easily accessible for all children, including those using wheelchairs. This roundabout encourages cooperative play and fosters social interaction, ensuring everyone can join in the fun, regardless of ability.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with City of Doncaster Council to ensure that all equipment met their requirements for inclusivity, safety, and durability. The newly enhanced Adwick Park now offers a welcoming, accessible environment where children of all abilities can play, explore, and enjoy their time together.
Daisy Shelton, Green Space Officer at the Directorate of Place, City of Doncaster Council, shared her thoughts on the project:
“We are very happy with the supply and installation of inclusive play equipment in Adwick Park by Wicksteed. The installation went very smoothly, and the quality of the equipment is outstanding. These new features were obtained using grant funding and have made the park more welcoming and accessible for all users, bringing joy to families throughout the community.”
