Breakwater Country Park, Isle of Anglesey County Council

Case Study

The council wanted to create a destination play area where children and families could enjoy and spend quality time together at Breakwater Country Park. There was no previous equipment at the park, so the brief was simple and clear – to create a play area that caters for a range of ages and abilities, blends in with the natural surroundings, be robust and low maintenance as the park is expected to be very well used especially in the summer months.

We created a play space which starts with a sensory area including musical items, tactile panels and a sensory pathway leading to a fenced toddler area which ensures that younger children can play freely and safely.  The equipment continues to flow and progress for the older and more adventurous children with challenging climbing trails, multi-play units, group swings, slides and many more items. The equipment was chosen to give children the opportunity to play together and encourage inclusive play for all abilities.  There is a pathway which connects all of the equipment and allows good accessibility for all users to the toddler, junior and youth equipment.

Customer Comment

“The Isle of Anglesey County Council were very pleased to work with Wicksteed Playgrounds during the development of the new Play area in Breakwater Country Park in Holyhead. Wicksteed offered a professional service throughout the entire process of design though to delivery. The staff were always available which ensured that the project was delivered as planned. The Council would be very happy to work with Wicksteed again in the future should the opportunity arise”
