Wincobank choose Wicksteed:
Wincobank choose Wicksteed - Having suffered considerably in the unprecedented flooding in June 2007, Wincobank Primary School in Sheffield was truly delighted to welcome The RH David Blunkett MP to officially open their brand new play area.
It was a very different scenario in the Wincobank area of Sheffield this time last year. During the wettest June since Met Office records began, back in 1914, some householders had to use sandbags to prevent water seeping through into their properties. Flooding had caused scores of homes, roads and schools to be closed and all rail services in Sheffield were cancelled. A month's worth of rain was due to fall in the space of two days in some areas, it was reported. A very sad story indeed.
Things are looking up again now, however, for the whole community, and for the school children and staff at Wincobank in particular. With the installation of such exciting products as the Mystical World Dragon's Canyon, a Play House, Land Rover and play panels - to name but a few - the school playground has been totally transformed! Even the surfacing has colourful ground graphics and a game of Hopscotch incorporated.
Northamptonshire-based Wicksteed Playscapes, provider of the design and installation of the playscape, was very pleased to have been involved with this rejuvenation and Head Teacher, Norma Greaves, is thrilled with the transformation:
"I am delighted with the new playground and feel that it will go some way to assist us in our commitment to providing two hours a week of physical activity for our younger children. We are in the fortunate position of having the space available to develop a range of outdoor provision which I am sure the children will enjoy."
