Local manufacturer Wicksteed Leisure Limited has been highly successful in securing major contracts throughout the UK over recent months, with three contracts alone totalling in excess of £2.5 million.

Based in Digby Street, Kettering, where Charles Wicksteed founded the company in 1876 – Wicksteed Leisure should not to be confused with Wicksteed Park, which Charles Wicksteed subsequently built and gave to Kettering in later years.

As the UK’s leading playground equipment manufacturing company, Wicksteed Leisure has grown from strength to strength by designing innovative, adventurous and visually appealing playgrounds and installing them to high safety standards across the country. They work in close partnership with local authorities and the public to ensure complete satisfaction when they improve play and sport facilities for local communities.

Wicksteed was recently awarded a £1million contract with Harlow District Council in Essex for the refurbishment of 62 play areas, after a commissioned report revealed that there were too many play areas in Harlow with unacceptable ratings. This was the first playground contract of this value awarded in the UK. This significant order was subsequently followed by a further contract worth in excess of £1million from St. Helen’s Metropolitan Council in Merseyside, who, as part of their Play Areas Partnering Contract, required Wicksteed to design and install 32 play schemes comprising 24 play areas and 8 ballcourts. South Derbyshire completed the trio of high value contracts when the authority nominated Wicksteed as their preferred supplier of all playground equipment required by them over a three year period, a contract which is anticipated to be worth in excess of £500,000.

Wicksteed’s Managing Director – Phil Holden told the ET “Wicksteed Leisure has maintained its number one position in the UK by keeping in touch with children’s and teenagers’ ever- changing needs and lifestyles and designing equipment that is one step ahead with adventurous concepts, exciting challenges and up to the minute themes and colour schemes. We do this by consulting with our own “Play Team” – a panel of children who tell us what is currently ‘cool’ and what will keep them active and stimulated. They give us no holds-barred feedback on our new ideas for products and playground layouts.”
