Wicksteed Launches New Electronic Play & Learning System ,
Introducing the new Learning ACTIV Zone (LAZ) from children's play design experts, Wicksteed Playgrounds! The LAZ is an educational product which uses technology to encourage both physical movement and learning in a fun and interactive way.
Wicksteed has taken a refreshingly different approach to encouraging children to keep both mind and body active. With concerns over levels of childhood obesity in the UK and youngsters spending increasing amounts of sedentary time on mobiles, tablets and gaming devices, Wicksteed has launched this fabulous new concept in play equipment.
Ideal for use in school buildings and playgrounds, the LAZ consists of a physical e-wall with multi coloured, sensor-responsive satellites mounted at fixed positions. The e-wall can be used in conjunction with an iPad via wireless connection for interactive learning in the class room or can be used independently with several pre-programmed games as part of free play.
Sales Director Stuart Wetherell commented, “We have been developing the synergy between electronics and traditional play equipment for several years with our first interactive play design, ‘PlayAlive’, launched six years ago. The LAZ is a further development of this concept which uses current technologies and we anticipate that schools and academies in the UK will see its huge potential within the learning environment as well as helping to get kids active.”
For educational games, teachers and students can select exercises for individual or group work on the LAZ app. The exercises comprise of several questions which students respond to by running to the e-wall and touching the correct coloured light in order to answer the question. Children can compete against each other or work in teams to answer the questions as quickly as possible.
There are hundreds of developed learning exercises which are freely available and cover all Curriculum Key Stages, subjects and age groups. Using the app exercise editor, both teachers and students can create and design their own exercises or complete projects and these can be shared with other teachers and students via the LAZ online hub.
