Wicksteed design two new play zones for Morecambe's West End park:
Wicksteed design two new play zones for Morecambe's West End park - Regent Park in Morecambe has just benefited from a £50,000 rejuvenation to its play area facilities. Jointly funded by Lancaster City Council and the West End Partnership, the extensive project is due to complete this Easter.
The play area boasts two separate play zones – one for children up to five years old and the other for ages six plus. Wicksteed’s ever-popular and challenging Electro Play System will keep the juniors fit and happy whilst Mystical World units will entertain and stretch the younger users. David Owen, Lancaster City Council’s head of cultural services, said “This is great news for Morecambe; Regent Park, like so many parks in the country, has not seen significant investment for some time but now the city council has made this commitment to the park. The West End Partnership, who are leading the regeneration of the West End, have also contributed by allowing development not only of the play area, but also a bowling green which will allow more competitions and ultimately encourage more people to use the park.”
Crucially, local residents and members of the public have been active in gaining public support for investment in Regent Park and have held public consultations on exactly what the locals want to see in their park – an approach Wicksteed is keen to promote.
Redevelopment of this park endorses the council’s priority to provide a healthier and cleaner environment for the district through the improved provision of sporting and leisure activities.
