The Great Xerscape!:
The Great Xerscape! - As part of an 'Active 3x30' event arranged by Upton House Park in Poole, Dorset, and officiated by the Mayor, there was an abundance of people trying out Xerscape - the new fitness range supplied by Wicksteed.
The event launched a three year campaign to help connect local people with opportunities to become more active and enjoy better health, fitness and general wellbeing. Having been invited to register for the event members of the public then tested out many different physical activities provided - in the spring sunshine - including Xerscape.
Designed and developed in collaboration with Professor Rachel Davey and her team from Staffordshire University's Centre for Sport and Exercise (CSER), these exciting units are certainly becoming very popular with all ages.
Primarily for installation in the great outdoors, anyone aged 12 upwards can enjoy the full range of exercising opportunities these units present, and all for free, whilst taking a breath or two of fresh air!
Indeed, as the photos show, there is no upper age limit and all the individual units have clear guidance as to how to undertake the exercise safely and accurately - whilst still having fun. As we get older it is important to stay as fit, active and mobile as possible, and these products offer the chance to do just that whilst simultaneously socialising!
Physical, psychological and social aspects of health were all thoroughly researched in the development of this range, and there's no doubt that regular, outdoor exercise can significantly improve general fitness levels and help prevent the onset of a number of chronic diseases. Body and muscle group usuage, activity type, and allround fitness and wellbeing factors were all carefully studied and the findings resulted in special circuits being devised for the individual user.
