SportACTIV - An exciting new electronic outdoor play zone :

In a bid to try and combat today’s ‘stay at home’ generation, Wicksteed Playscapes has created a new ground level system based on their existing PlayAlive electronic unit, called SportACTIV.

This team-based outdoor electronic platform provides a competitive play arena on which both children and adults are challenged to compete against each other.  There are five different games set up within the system and, through physically fast and furious activity, the challenge is to beat the opposing team to the finish.

Each satellite, of which there are typically twelve, is a self-contained electronic node incorporating 16 multi-colour LED’s, a touch sensor and speaker.  The steel posts on which these are mounted vary in height and satellite angle so that different movements are required during game play.  This ensures that many parts of the body are employed in order to reach that target.

Child obesity rates are still increasing and figures claim that “one third of pupils are overweight or obese by the time they reach year 6” and inertia is partly to blame.  Exercise through outdoor play is to be encouraged and will serve to improve general health and well-being whilst also being a lot of fun.

Research and on-site trials have proved that SportACTIV not only encourages children to be extremely active in play but also that they tend to play for longer, with some user test groups staying on the unit for hours; something not seen before with more conventional play systems.
