South Derbyshire Sports Awards:
South Derbyshire Sports Awards - The South Derbyshire Sports Awards are an important way of recognising and celebrating the sporting success of athletes and those involved in sports at all levels.
Nominations are received from any individuals connected with schools or sports organisations within the South Derbyshire district, highlighting our local stars in local, national and international success.
Having enjoyed a close association and great working partnership with South Derbyshire District Council, whose staff co-ordinate and run the event, it was an honour for Wicksteed's local Area Sales Manager, Simon Burke, to be invited to make two presentations a this recent awards ceremony.
Staged at Pingle School in Swadlincote and hosted by Steve Smith, Partnership Development Manager for South Derbyshire School Sports Partnership, the event has become quite a highlight in the local sporting calendar and provides a formal arena upon which local sporting achievements can be fully recognised.
As expected, there were a high number of candidates put forward for the 14 different categories, and Simon presented the Junior Sportswoman - Michaela Graham (Ice Skating) and Junior Sportsman - Christopher Steeples (Swimming) with their trophies. Katrina McIver (Ten Pin Bowling), Sabrina Heesh (Hockey) and Damian Cope (Basketball) also received Runner Up prizes.
Winners of each category will now go through as nominees for the countywide Derbyshire Sports Awards even at Pride Park, Derby, in November this year.
As South Derbyshire District Council's sole supplier of playground requirements, Wicksteed Playscapes has completed many new installations and Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) within the district and was proud to be an official sponsor of the South Derbyshire Sports Awards.
