Pupils in Birmingham get top marks for design - Another Wicksteed Play Team has come up trumps on the ideas front. Budding young designers at a Birmingham Primary School donned their creative thinking caps and put their business skills to the test, too... well, it's important to start early!
The pupils at Selly Oak Primary School were asked by Wicksteed to come up with their own play schemes and had to take into account budget, accessibility, play value and location.
Drawing on inspiration gained from looking through Wicksteed's latest product books, the kids used cut-outs of the play equipment to create their playscapes. Putting budgetary aspects into the mix was an important part of the whole project so the youngsters had to consider cost implications, too. Divided into two different groups, the enthusiastic 8 and 9 year olds brainstormed ideas with each other and Wicksteed 'teachers' Stuart and Rob before committing their concepts to paper.
The idea behind this project was to engage the young students in team-building and forward-thinking exercises, encouraging them to plan ahead and speculate about all angles of the task at hand.
"The children were so full of excellent ideas that it was hard to decide who to award the prizes to," said Stuart. "In the end, we had to leave it to their teachers to make the ultimate decision!"
