Such was the state of these children's facilities that, even after inspection and general repairs, much of the equipment was beyond economical repair. Considerable investment was needed to bring the play areas up to national standards.
Wyre Forest Community Housing believe very firmly that play is important for children's development and they consider that consultation with the local young people is the key to designing well used and well looked after play areas. They are therefore working in partnership with local schools and tenants’ committees, Sure Start Wyre Forest and Wicksteed Leisure Limited to achieve each community's aims.
Leading play equipment manufacturer - Wicksteed Leisure is Wyre Forest’s partner involved in the supply and installation of the play equipment. Chosen for the safety, durability and quality of their products, as well as the company’s flexible approach to incorporating local ideas for the playground design, Wyre Forest is able to ensure that the playgrounds are as safe as possible and their future maintenance budgets are kept to a minimum.
Following design input by Birchen Coppice First School and Birchen Coppice Tenant Consultative Committee, the first of the 16 play areas has just opened. The play area at Kinver Avenue, Kidderminster, was a priority as the play equipment had previously been removed for Health & Safety reasons, leaving the children of the Birchen Coppice estate without a safe environment for play.
