Pathfinder Play Programme at Nottingham
Contract Description
This contract with Nottingham City Council was partly funded by a variety of organisations including Nottingham City Council, the Department of Childrens, Schools and Families (DSCF) through the Pathfinder play programme, and the Primary Care Trust.
Nottingham City Council required designs that could make the most of the natural undulations of the areas; enhancing these with inspirational landscape design to produce innovative play areas. The Council was looking for a company to carry out the rejuvenation who had landscape architecture within its design services and who was able to create naturally-enhanced playscapes for Nottingham.
The Council`s requirements matched what was achieved, i.e designated prescribed play areas for toddlers and teens, but also a large element of natural play features, incorporating natural forms together with boulders, slides and tunnels, bringing shape, texture and form to the area.
Independent Street
This was very much a community-aware project therefore Wicksteed`s creative team involved the local arts group and together they designed some innovative mosaic adorned cube-shaped seating which Wicksteed was able to incorporate into the overall design.
Wicksteed consulted with the public at length and the local ballet school opened the playground.
Chediston Vale
This play area at Chediston Vale again very much involved the local community. As well as incorporating natural areas, a designated wild flower area was included, where local children and their parents were encouraged to plant their favourite varieties. Planting commenced at the opening of the play area as part of the event.
