Dogford Park in Oldham gets the thumbs up!

The site at Dogford Park was a former teen playground built in the 1970s, which had since become derelict.  With funding through PlayBuilder, Oldham County Council began the project to transform the area with a focus on child development.  Wicksteed's design brief was to remove all the stone walls and change the levels to create a site that was more naturally landscaped and challenging for older children aged 8 to 13.

With emphasis on retaining and enhancing the natural elements, an existing 6 metre mound encircled by tree trunks at the base was integrated into the overall play scheme. A special Rockscape was installed to challenge youngsters reaching the top of the mound. The addition of a large enclosed slide going through the mound and a wooden exercise trail on the mound bank provides a challenging route and offers an 'Indiana Jones' adventure experience!

The overall design creates more free space for children to run and hide amongst the mounds.

Throughout the site is exciting equipment, including a Hurricane Swing, a natural Fun 'n' Fitness Trail with balance beams going over and between the mounds and a circular maze using various natural materials which blend with the existing surroundings.
