Harlow rationalise their playground provision and call in the experts

'Partnership' ~ a word that characterises the way Wicksteed operate

A commissioned report from Nortoft Consultancy revealed that there were too many play areas in Harlow, Essex, with unacceptable ratings. As a result, £1million was granted towards improving the play and sport facilities for young people in the community. The total £1million contract was awarded to Wicksteed and their collaboration with Harlow District Council emerged in the aptly titled Playground Partnership.

Twenty of the sixty-two sites in question were decommissioned and the rest needed radically upgrading. Wicksteed, acting as the all-important link between the local authority and the public, even designed a specific website to enable the citizens of Harlow to vote on their preferred products and designs for each play area.

Wicksteed managed the project from initial consultation, site surveys, play area design and product manufacture. Their installation of the chosen play and sports equipment and appropriate safety surfacing, conforming to European Standards, as well as ensuring compliance with the Six Acre Standard for NEAPs and LEAPs, of course, completed the package.
