Wicksteed provides Multi-Use Games Area at Abbey Centre
The Abbey Centre, launched by Abbey Road Baptist Church in 1983, is a base for establishing contact with disaffected young people.
Many youngsters across the UK need help, appropriate support and a sense of belonging. They need to build relationships and in order to do that, a strong network is required. South Northampton is no exception and The Abbey Centre strives to provide what they need. One of the ways to attract young people is to offer activities which they readily enjoy.
HRH Diana, The Princess of Wales, she herself being a daughter of the County of Northampton, officially opened the initial facility at Abbey Road in 1987.
Continuing development has followed over the last 23 years and the Youth Wing was established in 1993. However, the worn out hard-court area available for use by visitors to the centre desperately needed replacing.
That's where Wicksteed came in; with the help of various charities, in-house fund-raising and a grant from Northamptonshire County Council, Wicksteed Leisure was commissioned to supply a new Wildcats Premier Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for the Abbey Centre site. The verdict of local users is bound to be "wicked!"
