Fitness trails offer ways for children to get interested in exercise – and therefore fitter – for longer.

While stuffy gyms and school sports halls might not appeal to the majority of children, all-action fitness trails – which can include colourful, outdoor, multi-module systems – engage children in a way that will keep them keen.
It’s not uncommon to see fitness and adventure trails in our outdoor spaces and play areas these days, and providing a selection of trim trails along a route in a country park are excellent ways of encouraging outdoor fitness in people of all sizes and ages.
In the young, balancing on a log beam or carefully traversing a wobbly rope on a wooden bridge will help develop a range of physical and mental skills, while the older age group can appreciate, assess and take calculated risks.
The systems can provide outdoor exercise in play areas, with low-level units requiring little supervision and offering a cost-effective solution, while high-level elements are fundamental to the development of children’s confidence and physical fitness, all within a safe and controlled environment.
Wicksteed’s tactile fitness and adventure trails (kitemarked to BS EN 1176 and produced in high quality timber from sustainable sources) are also popular with schools, keeping students busy in their free time and supplementing more formal PE tuition.
