In particular, Wicksteed’s symmetrically structured, spaceship-style PlayAlive ‘open play’ system, which incorporates space-age sounds, flashing lights and ropes within a spider-like climbing frame, can be set up so different electronic games can be played in teams or single users competing against each other.
On National Play Day, in August, the company tested out its high-tech electronic play system on families at Broadfield Park, in Rochdale – with up to 40 kids clambering on the unit at one time. All agreed that the futuristic LED ‘satellites’, coloured lights and electronic "voice” was much more fun than staring at computer games indoors.
