Raphael Park, Havering
Partly Lottery and partly Playbuilder funded, this site in the London Borough of Havering has been transformed by Wicksteed Playscapes.
There's a bespoke wooden mound with dark tunnels and timber clad steps, a round trampoline stretched across spider-like legs, a high-flying Buccaneer Tower structure where kids of all ages can climb, swing, sit, balance and stretch - or even simply sit and survey the landscape below. Even a fallen tree has been creatively included in this playscape design at this Havering Park, encouraging visitors to clamber over an intriguing play product initially provided by nature herself.
Indeed, sensory, textural pieces are being given plenty of usage in this Wicksteed landscape-led play theme. Touch, smell and sight are all stimulated, where possible, ensuring that visitors' overall enjoyment of the play area is maximised. It is important, too, for all kinds of families to be able to fully enjoy the park together, so inclusivity is another key element in this Wicksteed design.
The play products - which are positioned at the heart of this naturally beautiful park - work extremely well with the natural environment around them and provide a huge range of exercise and play value for kids of all ages.
Don Stewart - Park Projects Manager of The London Borough of Havering said:-
"Havering Council and local people are very pleased with the recently constructed natural children's play area designed and constructed by Wicksteed Playscapes.
Raphael Park is the premier urban park for Romford and the play area complements the facility perfectly. The design, which includes sand, gravel paths, fallen tree logs and other natural materials works well in the wooded landscape and the play equipment chosen is proving really exciting for children across the borough,
The new facility has given the park a fantastic lift!"
