Playbuilder funding boosts local play facilities:
Playbuilder funding boosts local play facilities - Thanks to a successful bid for funding by Watford Borough Council, Callowland Recreation Ground is about to enjoy a huge refurbishment as part of an exciting project in the area.
The Playbuilder fund of £156,000 boosted the significant pot already contributed by the Council.
Mayor Dorothy Thornhill, who was keen to show her appreciation of the extra monies made available through the DCSF via Playbuilder and managed through Hertfordshire Council, said: "In the regular surveys we carry out, parks and playgrounds always feature as a priority for residents. It is always good news when we can get additional funding to do even more work on our playgrounds."
Wicksteed Playscapes won the contract for Callowland after consultations were held with local schools, children's centres and children with disabilities to find out what sort of play equipment would top their wish lists. Wicksteed's winning vision included different styles of swings, climbing units and roundabouts all set amongst specially designed natural play features such as boulders, mounds and logs which will make up an adventure trail.
John Priestley, Parks Development Officer for Watford Borough Council, explained why Wicksteed Playscapes had ultimately been selected: "Wicksteed were successful in their bid because they showed a real understanding of our requirements and came up with a great design which the children loved."
Work is expected to be completed by March 2010 when the local community will be able to fully enjoy the refurbished playground.
