Natural play reigns at Queens Park, Hinckley:
Natural play reigns at Queens Park, Hinckley - Natural elements mingled with prescribed play equipment makes for the perfect play space and Wicksteed Playscapes has just completed a fine refurbishment based on exactly that at Queens Park in Hinckley.
A huge, high and very fast Hurricane Swing and a state-of-the-art Basket Swing dominate two special bark-laid areas, whilst a timber-made structure constructed of twisted interwoven logs and netting stands tall in an attractive sand-filled area.
Officially opened by Councillor Keith Nichols, Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth, this exciting new Wicksteed playscape offers something for everyone. Natural elements intermingle with some very funky play equipment. There's a long Bannister Slide emerging from the Log Mound which has a central tunnel scooped out and Log Steps from the other side.
Funding for the £50,000 site was provided by the government backed PlayBuilder grant plus approximately £10,000 from Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Councils Capital Funds for Play Provision.
Paul Scragg, Green Space Project Officer from HBBC, was keen to say: "The remit for the play area was to provide a natural space using materials such as rocks, boulders, logs, sand and bark together with a healthy balance of prescribed play products to challenge children's physical and mental skills. Wicksteed created just what we envisaged and the revitalised play area is being extremely well used."
