London Borough of Bexley's play facilities transformed by huge Lottery Fund

London Borough of Bexley's play facilities transformed by huge Lottery Fund:

London Borough of Bexley's play facilities transformed by huge Lottery Fund - It was during a visit from Tony Blair two years ago, that a particular play area in Bexley, known as The Green at Falconwood, was highlighted as being in much need of rejuvenation. Subsequently a Lottery application was, in fact, given top priority so that this area could be dramatically transformed.

Wicksteed Leisure was successful in winning the contract to design and install equipment for this project in Falconwood, Welling, as well as another in Russell Park – together these orders are worth a substantial £350k. Work on this prestigious site is expected to be complete by the end of July.

Flanked by concrete housing, the playground in The Green at Falconwood is in desperate need of refurbishment as it is basically a large but rather tumbledown site which provides no positive benefits to the local community. Consulting the all important end user is essential, so school children of varying ages were drafted in to voice their opinions as to the ideal requirements for their playground.  The chosen design solutions can be seen by visiting the website -http://www.bexley.gov.uk/service/parks/new_playgrounds.html

Indeed, The Green, is going to look extremely impressive as not only one, but four distinct play areas – a Toddler Area, two Junior and one Teen Area - have been designed for the playground so that toddlers right through to agile adults will be catered for. Wicksteed’s innovative range of equipment which will include the amazing Matrix – a huge, towering structure created to challenge the older age range – will be installed on the site enhanced by specially designed colourful ground graphics.  Postman Pat’s Delivery Van and Jess the Cat Springie are just two of the products to be featured in the toddler play area, while swings, including the innovative Yo-Yo Swing, slides, climbers, rockers and roundabouts of all kinds will entertain and exercise ages across the board.

The grassed area at Russell Park, previously sadly lacking in playground equipment, will also be given a huge and much needed facelift. Chosen products from the extensive Wicksteed range will provide far more imaginative and creative challenges in play for all age ranges.

There have been a lot of improvements made throughout the area recently and these two exciting projects make up Phase 4 of a 5 Phase Scheme which Bexley Council are currently undergoing.

It is hoped that the newly-elected Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Nigel Betts, will be on hand to officially declare the totally transformed site open especially as this is a project dear to his heart and actually within his Ward.
