Independent Street gets natural makeover - Watch out for a major, new playscape soon to be unveiled for the people of Independent Street, Nottingham.

Work is currently underway to totally regenerate a huge site here which will give the local community plenty to embrace.

Needing to select a company that could make the most of the natural undulations of the area and enhancing these with inspirational landscape design to produce an innovative play area, Nottingham County Council commissioned Wicksteed Playscapes to carry out the rejuvenation.  Wicksteed is not only the UK's leading manufacturer of playground equipment, but the company also incorporates landscape architecture within its design services.  The head of this team has created an amazing, naturally-enhanced playscape for Nottingham.

Designated prescribed play areas for both toddlers and teens have been accommodated and - uniquely - a special exercise area for all ages has also been built in to the scheme, which, crucially, includes a large element of natural play features.  Ingeniously incorporating natural forms together with boulders, slides, tunnels and shutes, the scheme is going to provide a wonderfully explorative play and exercise ground for all its visitors and will bring a lot of colour, shape, texture and form to the area which definitely needed bringing back to life.

Very much a community-aware project, the local arts group has been involved alongside Wicksteed's creative team in designing some innovative mosaic-adorned cube-shaped seating which will be variously dotted around the extensive site.
