ENTERTAINMENT RIGHTS AGREE Postman Pat® PLAYGROUND DEAL WITH WICKSTEED:
ENTERTAINMENT RIGHTS AGREE Postman Pat® PLAYGROUND DEAL WITH WICKSTEED - Entertainment Rights Plc ("ER"), one of the UK's fastest-growing independent media groups specialising in the ownership of children's and family programming, characters and brands today announces the appointment of Wicksteed Leisure in an unprecedented deal to develop a range of Postman Pat® licensed outdoor playground equipment.
Wicksteed Leisure is the leading British designer and manufacturer of playground equipment for the community, education and leisure markets. The Postman Pat® themed playground is an industry first as no licensed character has ever appeared on outdoor playground equipment to date.
Postman Pat® fans can expect to see Postman Pat® branded playgrounds based around the fictional village of Greendale featuring Jess the Cat rockers, Postman Pat® activity boards, wall puzzles, climbing frames based on the new Greendale Rocket train and Postman Pat® ’s van for children to play in at their local playground, nursery, activity centre and leisure park from summer 2005.
Postman Pat® licensed playground equipment will be featured on the Wicksteed Leisure stand at the 2005 IOG Saltex show, the biggest grounds care management event in Europe. The Saltex show takes place at Windsor Racecourse from 6th-8th September 2005.
The first new series of Postman Pat® in over 20 years aired on the BBC in Autumn 2004, attracting 25 million viewers in its initial 6 week run. New Postman Pat® programming is in production and will be airing on the BBC throughout 2005 and 2006. Postman Pat® has a strong brand presence at retail with over 100 products launched into the marketplace in the last year alone.
Postman Pat® and Jess the Cat will be involving young children in the children’s charity Jeans for Genes by starring in a national campaign to nursery schools this Autumn and Entertainment Rights will be donating 50p from every copy of the brand new DVD and video release, Postman Pat® and the Great Dinosaur Hunt during the Jeans for Genes promotion period.
Commenting on the deal, Claire Shaw, Head of Consumer Products, Entertainment Rights said:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Wicksteed, the industry leader in their field. This agreement underlines Wicksteeds belief in the appeal of Postman Pat® as a classic, evergreen brand with real longevity. We are very excited about this agreement and look forward to working with Wicksteed in developing this innovative new product range.”
Brian Baggaley, Sales and Product Development Director, Wicksteed Leisure added:
“Postman Pat® has made a massive impact in the children’s market since the launch of the new series and was a natural choice when selecting a licensed character to develop into playground equipment. The strong visual look of the show will ensure the end product stands head and shoulders above its competitors.”
