Celebrating National Play Day with Wicksteed:
Celebrating National Play Day with Wicksteed - National Play Day gets Wicksteed's support
In celebration of children's rights to outdoor play, communities up and down the country staged special events to highlight this important subject and Wicksteed Playscapes took some of their exciting equipment to two of these aptly named 'National Play Days' to contribute to the cause.
At the Memorial Gardens in Newmarket, Wicksteed's intriguing PlayAlive unit from their electronic playscape range was seen buzzing with people of all ages. This spider-shaped play system bleeps and flashes as teams or individuals pit against each other in a bid to 'Zap the Sat' or beat the clock in the 'Supersonic' game.
Bringing a new phenomenon to outdoor play, this state of the art piece of equipment shows that computer-led games do have a place outdoors and is a great way of enticing youngsters away from less healthy indoor pursuits.
Forest Heath's District Council's Community Development Officer for Children & Young People, Keri Bird, couldn't have asked for a more successful event and said: "A huge thank you to Wicksteed Playscapes for bringing along the PlayAlive system. It was a very popular feature of the day's events and the feedback from children and young people was very positive - in fact, so positive that they were incredibly disappointed it wasn't staying forever! PlayAlive complemented the National Play Day event very well - held as part of Forest DC's efforts to increase children and young people's access to play and positive activities in open spaces. I am sure I speak on behalf of all the young people who participated in the event when I say that we hope Wicksteed Playscapes will be coming along to our community events in the future."
Wicksteed alos took their Xerscape range of outdoor fitness units to support National Play Day in the grounds of Sheerness Leisure Complex for Swale District Council and visitors had great fun as they gave the outdoor gym a go!
Helen Blanche, Greenspaces Officer for Swale DC, was very pleased with the way the day progressed and was delighted, too, that the sun shone down on everyone for the occasion!
Embracing the freedom of outdoor play should be celebrated everyday, but setting aside one particular day to highlight the importance of this in children's lives is a good way of reaching out to communities nationwide.
