Banbury's Spiceball Park Play Area welcomes much-needed refurbishment - Not just one of Banbury’s largest main parks, but also one which proudly boasts one of the largest play areas, Spiceball Park has recently undergone a major refurbishment, making it, arguably, one of the best!Not just one of Banbury’s largest main parks, but also one which proudly boasts one of the largest play areas, Spiceball Park has recently undergone a major refurbishment, making it, arguably, one of the best! Following a month of open consultation in which the public were able to view all the proposed designs for the site, Wicksteed Leisure was awarded the £90,000 contract. The chosen design drawn up by the creative team at Wicksteed was finally made a reality and at the end of May 2007, ahead of schedule, a state-of-the-art playscape emerged.
Some of the exciting new equipment now installed includes one of Wicksteed’s very latest and most eye-catching multiplay systems, the Matrix. Designed to offer that extra challenge to kids of all ages, this product sets the standard for a new era of playground equipment. A new modular unit from the Mystical World range which caters for younger aged children, and the fabulous Pendulum Swing for ages across the board, demonstrate just how effectively the Wicksteed team and the public work together. Colourful ground graphics complete the cheerful and innovative look of this totally transformed play area.
The overdue refurbishment was met with great delight by Ann Sewell, Events & Projects Officer of Banbury Town Council, who commented at the time, “The final design will meet the needs of all ages and abilities and will bring Spiceball Park back to its former glory. It is anticipated that this new play area will be well used during the summer holidays.” Since June has been officially declared the wettest in almost 95 years, all that is needed now is for the sun to shine! << back to media centre
