50 year old Ben the Rocking Horse is still going strong - Wicksteed Rocking Horse refurbished to fulfil a boy's dream!
A New Coat for Ben, published in English, Greek and Turkish, is the touching story of one Cypriot boy's determination to make a difference.
Ben Hur is a Wicksteed Rocking Horse in the Municipal Park in the heart of Nicosia. It was manufactured by Wicksteed and donated to the municipality by the Racing Club of Nicosia in 1952.
The book was written by the parents of a boy who loved playing on Ben but noticed that his special playmate was showing its age. It tells the story of the youngster's ambitious plan to restore the rocking horse to its former glory.
The Wicksteed Rocking Horse, of similar design, is still available today, in their Traditional Rockers range. The literature rightly says, "Our Rocking Horse is still a firm favourite." Today's version, for the age range 5 to 10 years, allows children to rock at an invigorating pace together, whilst the built-in safety mechanism prevents excessive movement without spoiling their fun!
Wicksteed Leisure, who have a long association with the island, were more than delighted to be instrumental in making this particular dream come true. They are thrilled that play equipment manufactured by Wicksteed has stood the test of time so well - with a little help from its friends, of course!
