Meeting your needs
We discuss your requirements in detail including the relative benefits of the various types of safety surface available and the thicknesses and areas needed to conform with BS EN 1176.

A clear plan view, showing Free Fall Heights and the most cost-effective area of Playscape Wet Pour for appropriate protection, is shown alongside each item of equipment in this product book that requires safety surfacing. Plans specific to Playscape Tiles, Playscape Safety Grass or Playscape Bark can be provided on request.

Testing
Our Playscape Surfacing products have been independently tested in accordance with the requirements of BS EN 1177:1998 and BS 7188:1998.

BSI testing covers:

  • Critical Fall Height (BS EN 1177)
  • Resistance to Abrasive Wear (BS 7188)
  • Slip Resistance (BS 7188)
  • Resistance to Indentation (BS 7188)
  • Flammability (BS 7188)

Technical information and installation
Wicksteed provides a nationwide installation service using experienced personnel trained to install surfacing to BS EN 1176. However, if you wish to use your own personnel please ask for our separate Playscape Surfacing Technical Information and Installation Guidelines.

Guarantee
Playscape Wet Pour, Tiles and Safety Grass are guaranteed for five years, excluding normal wear and tear, the results of vandalism and accidental damage.

Definitions of terms used within British/European Standards
BS EN 1177:1998
Impact absorbing playground surfacing - Safety requirements and test methods.

BS 7188:1998
Impact absorbing playground surfacing - Performance requirements and test methods.

Free Fall Height
The greatest vertical distance from the clearly intended body support to the impact area below.

Type of use
Standing (from foot to surface).
Sitting (from seat to surface).
Hanging (from hand support to surface).

Impact area
The area that can be hit by the falling user.

Critical Fall Height
The upper limit of all Free Fall Heights, for which surfacing provides an acceptable level of impact attenuation.

Head Injury Criterion
The criterion for head injuries caused by falls, as calculated in accordance with the formula given in BS EN 1177.
