Cromarty pensioners get active with Xerscape:

Cromarty pensioners get active with Xerscape - Whoever says age is a barrier to exercise is talking rubbish!! Lucky pensioners in the Black Isle community of Cromarty in Scotland are certainly proof of that!

Local senior citizens can now be seen enjoying extremely beneficial exercise on the Xerscape outdoor fitness units just installed by Wicksteed.

This is all thanks to Anne Short from the Cromarty Community Council. Anne was inspired by the idea when she spotted an item on TV earlier in the year featuring the very same range of products on a new 'grey ground' in Blackley, north Manchester - the first of its kind in England.  Keen for the elderly residents of Cromarty to enjoy similar beneftis, Anne set the wheels in motion to get their own Pensioner Play Park underway.

Supported by Highland Council, Talisman Energy and the Cromarty Trust, the project cost £15,000 to fund.

Cromarty's oldest resident, Mrs Jean Newell, was invited to offically open the play zone.  Celebrating her 100th birthday as she cut the ribbon, Mrs Newell - who still lives in the house in which she was born - was delighted to be involved in this exciting venture and made sure she tried out a few of the exercise units for herself!
